Doze atletas alinharam no Triatlo Sprint em Marcha Atlética, disputado este sábado, 27 de setembro, em Drunen, nos Países Baixos. Apesar de o número de participantes ter sido inferior aos dos anos anteriores (35 em 2015), os resultados dos vencedores masculino e feminino foram os melhores das últimas cinco edições.
Pela primeira vez, a vitória nos homens foi conquistada por um atleta inglês, Luc Legon (Bexley AC), que triunfou em todas as três distâncias, sempre por larga margem. Legon cumpriu os 3000 m em 12.51,8 m, os 1000 m em 3.56,5 m e a milha em 6.39,4. Apenas numa ocasião a vitória tinha sido alcançada na milha com melhor registo. Os vencedores das 15 edições anteriores do Triatlo Sprint eram provenientes dos seguintes países: Eslováquia, Irlanda, Bélgica, Países Baixos, Alemanha, Polónia e Espanha.
A prova da milha proporcionou luta muito animada entre Edwin van Wijngaarden, Remco de Bruin e Anne van Andel pelos lugares atrás de Luc Legon. Van Andel terminaria a distância na segunda posição (vencedora feminina), com 7.35,4 m, superando por 0,2 segundos o melhor registo da prova, obtido em 2012 pela irlandesa Kate Veale. Nos lugares imediatos terminaram Van Wijngaarden (7.35,7) e De Bruin (7.36,0).
No conjunto das três distâncias, Van Wijngaarden ficou em segundo lugar e De Bruin em terceiro. Van Andel foi a vencedora feminina do triatlo, quarta na geral, sobretudo por não se ter empenhado a fundo nos 1000 metros. Nos 3000 metros, Van Andel bateu o recorde feminino dos Países Baixos do escalão W35, retirando-lhe mais de um minuto, para fixá-lo em 14.19,6 m. Tratou-se da sétima vitória de Van Andel no Triatlo Sprint.
Liesbet De Smet (Bélgica) terminou a competição feminina no segundo lugar e Geraldine Legon (Inglaterra) foi terceira. Bauke te Nijenhuis, de 89 anos, foi o participante com idade mais avançada, registando a 13.ª participação nesta competição.
Desta vez, o programa desenrolou-se sob boas condições atmosféricas, com sol, brisa ligeira e 18ºC graus de temperatura.

Luc Legon and Anne van Andel win the 16th international sprint triathlon race walking
On Saturday, September 27, twelve athletes lined up for the sprint triathlon race walking in Drunen, the Netherlands. Although the number of participants was lower than in previous years (in 2015 there were 35 participants), the results of the men's and women's winners were the best of the past five years.
For the first time, an English athlete was the men's winner. Luc Legon (Bexley AC) won all three distances by a large margin. He completed the 3000m in 12:51.8; the 1000m in 3:56.5; and the English mile in 6:39.4. Only one winner had ever been faster in the mile. The fifteen previous editions of the sprint triathlon have produced winners from Slovakia, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Spain.
Behind Luc Legon, there was a particularly exciting battle in the mile between Edwin van Wijngaarden, Remco de Bruin, and Anne van Andel. Van Andel finished second (and first woman) in that distance in 7:35.4, beating Kate Veale (Ireland)'s 2012 race record by 0.2 seconds. Behind her were Van Wijngaarden in 7:35.7 and De Bruin in 7:36.0.
Over all three distances, Van Wijngaarden finished second and De Bruin third. Van Andel won the women's triathlon and finished fourth overall, primarily because she didn't give it her all in the 1000 meters. In the 3000 meters, Van Andel broke the Dutch women's 35 record, lowering it by more than a minute to 14:19.6. This was Van Andel's seventh victory in the sprint triathlon.
Liesbet De Smet (Belgium) finished second in the women's race, and Geraldine Legon (England) took third. At 89, Bauke te Nijenhuis was the oldest participant. He was participating in the sprint triathlon for the 13th time.
This time, the triathlon was held in good weather conditions: sunshine, little wind, and 18 degrees Celsius.
